Here is my new section on my website .Ive decided to create a blog section where I will present my thougts about logo, graphic designs and creativity in general. Below I put my first article
“What is the value of your logo ” Any feedback would be appreciated.Enjoy!
What is the value of your logo?
I have put four products on a timeline (ranking from the lowest to highest value). The timeline shows which products hold their value for a longer period of time.
As you might noticed food products carry the lowest perceived value due to it’s short ‘use by’ period and high availability to broader number of people.
The second group of products is electronics such as mobile phones, computers, mp3 players etc. These products carry relatively high value while brand new but once they leave the store they drastically drop their value due to rapid technology development. It is very hard to keep up with new products released about every six months. Every introduction to new upgrades makes the old product less worthy. The availability of these products is still fairly high however much lower than food products.
The third group of products are cars and other vehicles. The drop of the value is much slower than electronics as it depends on more factors such as the brand, milage and how well these products were maintained by their owners. The technology changes are not that as rapid as electronic goods. The availability of these products it’s also limited due to it’s higher price therefore their perceived value is high as well.
The last group is Logo/Brand. Its value seem to last longer as it’s not dependent on short term trends, fashion or technology changes. The logo or company’s brand stands for long lasting values. It takes years of hard work to build the trust and reputation. The logo/brand is worth its value for as long as the business is willing to deliver great products and services to their clients. The availability of this product is quite limited as not everyone has a succesful mindset to create great products and services that ultimately generate great revenue.
Now is a great logo enough to attract customers? Unfortunately not. But it is a good start. It will represent what you believe in and what you have to offer. You will still need to give some value to people. You will have to offer something remarkable and work hard to build trust and reputation. Your logo/brand will always stand for your values and it will increase it’s own value over the period of time.
As an example of that think about companies such as Apple or Mercedes- their products are high quality due to values their founders had to offer to people like quality and reliability. Once the brand is established it will justify putting a higher price tag on your products.
